Mai Miyazaki / It Always Does

Mai Miyazaki is an acrylic mixed-media artist from Kyoto, Japan, now based in Toronto, Canada. Her practice explores the interplay between shapes, color, and texture, layering fluid paint with delicate embroidery to express herself, society, and the human experience. 

Mai’s practice experiments freely with materials and techniques, layering color and texture to create depth and movement. Her work draws inspiration from lived experiences and societal complexities, translating them into compositions that are rooted in the intricacies of emotion and structure. 

Alongside her artistic practice, Mai also practices as a musician, exploring rhythm and sound as another form of personal expression. Through her art, Mai invites audiences to engage with the visual and tactile qualities of each piece, encouraging personal reflection, emotional connection, and active interaction.
