Sarah Short / Double Dare

Sarah Z. Short is a multidisciplinary artist based in Richmond, Rhode Island. Residing in the woods informs her practice — this quiet place is where she creates her collages from vintage materials. Old papers are Sarah’s favourite, like the ragged edges of a worn book cover and the marks that readers leave on the pages over time. The beauty in these vintage materials comes from the history that we’re unaware of, but Sarah’s work gives them new life.

If this piece of art were a perfume, it'd be Gypsy Water by Byredo. Fresh, elegant, refined, yet with a touch of edge. We will never be able to get over just how much this print appears to be three-dimensional. You can actually see the layers of each component to the collage and the raw-edged muted teal material — talk about texture. This is one of our all-time favourite artworks (if we had to choose).
