The Story

Kelsea Chatburn is a Toronto-based watercolor artist, known for her vibrant paintings of Los Angeles and Asian street food markets. Drawing inspiration from her personal travels and childhood in the California desert, Chatburn’s work delivers a sense of happiness in the form of appreciation for cultural details of a subject. Kelsea's paintings offer a diverse exploration of shapes and colours that are associated with fond memories of travel.

This mini series, Neon Lights, was inspired by a recent trip to New York City. Kelsea found a fixation with light and reflection amongst urban landscapes, prompting her to capture these moments through her practice. She uses the fluid quality of watercolor and gouache paint to evoke the ephemera of fleeting moments —immortalizing the city's vibrancy and around-the-clock pulse.
