Helen Mak / Shanshui 01

One of the pieces featured in our capsule collection with the AGO - Art Gallery of Ontario. Helen Mak is Chinese-Canadian multi-disciplinary artist based in Toronto. Her fine art practice is reflective and expressive. Often seeking to visualize her own identity, feelings, and understandings of the society around her through mixed media (acrylic, pastels, coloured pencils, and graphite). Helen is constantly exploring combinations of Chinese and Western art philosophies to create her work.

Bright, bold, brazen. There's a reason this piece was the first to sell out in our capsule with the AGO. It's one of those pieces that can almost be whatever you want it to be. A bouquet of flowers, a landscape, or doodles on a notepad — it'll take on different meanings at different times in your life. That's the beauty of it.
